My Devotions
I'm trying to get into a writing routine so I can be productive. At school, I tend to get things done. There's so much to do and only so much time, so I have to work when I can.
At home . . . well, there are certainly plenty of distractions. The dryer gives me an insistent buzz, reminding me to fold laundry. Then, when I get down there, the washer is just standing there, mouth open, saying "feed me." My dog isn't much different. How can I resist?
Then there's the internet. I belong to several writers networks, which is great, but I tend to think they're announcing something new and earth-shaking as soon as I sign off. So, I have to go back and check regularly.
Last night, I did do some laundry, let my kids feed the dog, and checked plenty of writers' message boards. But I also edited and formatted FIVE DEVOTIONS for Concordia Publishing House's My Devotions. I also e-mailed my online critique group to see if it was okay to send two of those devotions in for critiques this week. And, I e-mailed the editor of My Devotions, because my guidelines are five years old. I need to see how she likes to receive submissions now and if anything else has changed.
My goal is to send in all five devotions before school is out. By then, I'll have some more rough drafts in progress, and send out a couple of queries.
Summer is already looking good.
