Wrote a New Devotion
In anticipation of the contract coming this or next week, I went through my writing files to see if I had seven devotions that are at least in rough draft stage. No. I do not. But, it's extremely close. I found four that are almost polished and ready to go. One needs a little work, but isn't bad. I think I can easily pull two or three from samples I wrote when I wanted to get on a Sunday school curriculum team. I decided to also write a rough draft of a new one.
I love the creative process. I sat and looked at a blank screen - no inspiration there! I thought about school for a moment - it just ended for the year, so I'd rather take a break from it - no inspiration there. I looked around and almost got distracted by the cleaning projects - that was a close call! So, I looked at the editor's email and saw the dates for which I'd be writing. I went to a "This Day In History" site and punched in a date. First two dates - nothing. November 17th was a different story. I came across a birthdate that triggered an idea. (Sorry, not sharing the idea!) I googled the man's name, his discovery, found some really interesting trivia about him, and Whammo! I had an idea. I wrote a complete first, very rough, draft. I'll let it sit for a couple of days before I re-read it. Then, I'll submit it to my online critique group. Voila! I feel the wind of creativity and writing success fill my sails.
I know, my confidence will wane sometime this summer, but I'm enjoying it as long as I can.
