The First Green Beans

Every day, I go to the edge of our deck and admire my little garden.  It's just two little square foot gardens, side-by-side, but I love it anyway.

Yesterday, I gazed at the abundant greenness of it all, and what did I see but a tiny little green bean.  I was like a little kid at Christmas.  Barefoot, I ran around the side of the deck, barely checking for doggie doo-doo.  I knelt down by the beans and gently laid back some of the leaves.  Sure enough!  Abundant little green guys everywhere!  I plucked a few baby beans, about an inch long and a centimeter wide, and took them in to share with my family.

They weren't so impressed.

I beamed at my beans and tasted the green veggie.  Tasted is about all you can do when they're that small.

I can't wait until they get a bit bigger.  Steamed fresh green beans -- Mmmm!  Sauteed in butter with slivered almonds -- even better!  Eaten fresh from the garden -- the best!
