Gifts for Writers

Thanks to Camy Tang, I'm going to make a few list entries this month.

Here's the first:  Gifts for Writers

When to use this list: birthdays, Christmas, or any celebratory moment (like landing an agent or contract!)

This list happens to be customized to my particular writing wants and needs (just in case any of my gift givers read my blog - wink, wink.)

1.  Gift certificates rock!  I love Barnes & Noble, but any gift certificates would be great.  Did you know you can get GC's for online places, too?  I have used them before, and with my inner bargain shopper, I can really make them work!  Consider gift certificates for bookstores, office supply stores, and restaurants with WiFi (like Panera.)

2.  Talk the kids into offering me a day of maid service.  If they did the dishes, folded laundry (sorry, but nobody washes my laundry "right enough") and made a meal - that would be a real treat!  Real maid service would be nice, but I don't see that happening.

3.  Laptop accessories like a laptop carrier with wheels, a laptop table, etc.

4.  CDs or MP3s of recorded writing workshops from a writer’s conference (thanks, Camy! - great, practical idea.)

5. Registration fee and/or hotel and travel costs to a writer’s conference (again, thanks Camy!)

6.  MP3 player accessories— adapter to play the iPod via the car radio (I used DH's for a trip and LOVED it!) armband holder, etc.

7.  Cash.  I know that sounds a bit simple, uncreative, and maybe crass.  But, if someone gave me cash and told me that I could only spend it on my writing, I would appreciate it greatly

8.  Little office/desk supplies like highlighters, Post-its, Post-it flags, ream of slightly nicer paper, larger paper clips,  notebooks, mini notebooks, a business card case, or a fast pen (I would LOVE to get a fast-flowing pen - they are great!)

9.  A special pen. I'm not 100% sure about this one.  I don't need an expensive pen, but I like a good-looking pen.  It just feels good to use it.  Yet, I'm not sure what I consider a good pen.  I like my Mary Engelbreit pens for their looks, but they don't write well any more and have fallen apart.

10.  Tea kettle and tea cup.  I know that tea puts me in the writing frame of mind.  I think a nice kettle and cup would be really special (but not really necessary!)
