Sharing Your Resolutions or Goals with Others

I plan to make at least two big goals for 2008 today.  Like I said in the previous post, this is a big deal for me.

I've heard that one very motivating action you can take is to announce the goals or resolutions to everyone you know.  I've tried that before, with disappointing results.

If I tell you I'm going to lose weight, please do not think that you are my personal diet police. Do not say, "Hey, I thought you were on a diet" with a smirk on your face.  I will want to smack you.  And, I don't mean give you a kiss.  It would be more helpful if you would invite me to a healthy restaurant (not too often!) or ask me to go on a walk.  Just don't tell me what to do, and don't sabotage me.

I'm quite sure that the last time I told people I was going to lose weight, chocolate magically appeared, people took me out to eat at places where the only healthy food was a pale side salad, and everyone thought they could tell me what to eat.  That just makes me irritable.  Very irritable.  And, it makes me never want to tell those people anything again.  (Kind of like when I say I'm working on my writing, and a certain someone asks me when I'm going to write a "real" book. Talk about wanting to smack someone!)

I want to take this moment to say -  I would never slap or hit or smack someone.  I would just feel like it.  I have self-control.

So, I'm going to try it again today.  I will work up my goals and share them right here on this blog.  You will think they are very boring goals, but I will feel like I'm bearing my soul and accountable to the world.  (Yes, I realize that the whole world does not read this blog, but I had a lot of hits yesterday, so I think it's more than one person - unless that person is obsessed with me.)
