Summer Reading Challenge and Summer Plans
I made up a summer reading list for our school. It was so fun. I spent hours putting it together, but every minute was pure joy. Seriously! I loved trying to find something for each grade. I tried to put variety into each list: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, old classics, newer finds, books from authors I know, books I've been wanting to read, books I've seen kids devour, Christian stories, etc. The part that was least fun and took the most time was making sure they were available in the local library.
My family loves ordering books from the inter-library loan, I'm not sure everyone does that. So, I made it easier for them.
So, there's a list for Kindergarteners to eighth graders, plus a challenge list of a few longer books - a total of 94 books!
My challenge is to read them all. Guess what! We're not even a full week into summer break, and I've checked several off. I even read one that's not on the list! (I've got a few I've been dying to read that aren't on the list. I will read them all!) If you want a list of the books I'm challenging my students to read, e-mail me or leave a message here. I'll send you the list. You can join me!
Now, the bad thing is . . .
I haven't written much.
I want to read books so badly, that I have a bagful from my classroom library, and a pile from the library. And, I just want to read my books all day long. OK, I also want to live on the internet all day, too. The books and the internet pull me back and forth all day long. And then there's making food, cleaning clothes, and that kind of stuff.
ewww.
The summer days have just begun, and yet I feel them slipping away.
My summer plans include, but are not limited to
- read a ton of books ("ton" is only a slight exaggeration)
- write a book
- write 7 (or more) devotions
- go camping at least a few times
- go hiking
- get into an exercise routine
- lose weight
- do more household cleaning than I did all school year (not hard!)
- cook from scratch more (again, not difficult)
- land at least one more writing assignment (I've got one percolating)
- attend three workshops (two are online, one's in person)
- lead my kids to more responsible living (translation: more chores)
- play Oregon Trail regularly (it's an educational indulgence)
I know I have more planned, but I think that may be enough!
So, anyone want to share some of their summer goals/plans?
Where are you going on vacation?
Any personal improvement goals?
Any home improvements?
