Teacher Tip Tuesday: Educational Renewal
Do you attend the state teacher conferences? Do you go to workshops for reasons other than fulfilling your CEU obligations?
I hope so.
I've found that when I choose my educational opportunities for growth, I feel renewed. It's not like something I have to do for my school, but more like something I have to for my own sense of personal growth.
Oh, it's not that I need more to do, or that I love taking a day off (you know, arranging for a sub, lesson plans, etc.) It's more like the nagging feeling that if I don't go outside my little classroom, my world, I'll stagnate.
I hate stagnation. I can feel the mold growing on me as I make lesson plans to do the "same ol' thing" year after year. Ugh! I just can't do it.
I have to get out and do something to renew my educational spirit.
So, whether I find out about a new spelling curriculum, methods for dealing with difficult students, or how to write better - it doesn't necessarily matter what it is, as long as it's something I am interested in.
I come back to my piles of work feeling slightly better than when I left. I may try out some new things, or I may just feel that wave of hope and inspiration. Either way, my class and I benefit.
