Teacher Tip Tuesday: Use Videos in Religion Class
Today, I'm going to recommend some videos that are great for religion class:
Matthew (from the Visual Bible) - I can't recommend this video enough! It is terrific. The Visual Bible people use the exact words from Matthew (NIV.) They don't add or subtract a single word. The entire book is acted out. Jesus, played by Bruce Marchiano, is the most compassionate, realistic Jesus I've seen. He's not a wimpy, anemic Jesus, like some of the pictures you've seen. He's like a real guy - and yet, Jesus.
Acts (from the Visual Bible) - See description above - very similar quality.
John (again - Visual Bible) - This one was not as good (in my opinion) as Matthew, my favorite. However, I'll leave that for you to judge. Some of the reviews I read rated in much better than Matthew, and I've only seen it once. If I remember correctly, it's not word-for-word as the previous two are.
Okay, those are my top three videos to use in religion class. I encourage you to watch bits of them as you use references in class.
I also encourage you to use Christian comedians (great stress relief after a religion test!) and entertaining movies with Christian themes and morals (then lead your class in a Christian ethics discussion.)
Videos can bring Scripture to life in a different way than typical discussions and Bible studies.
