Saturday's Book Recommendation: But Mom, I Don't Want to Move! by Susan Miller
I've been reading this book, But Mom, I Don't Want to Move! (Focus on the Family)
, for awhile now, making mental notes about which things I will make sure I do or don't do with my kids before we finish moving.
Susan Miller covers such things as how to tell the children, how to get them involved in the move, how to stay firm as a family, and how to establish your new home.
I've found several things that I already plan to do or that I didn't really need to be told, but it was still nice to see it. She explains why it's so important to do some of those things and what the kids may be thinking (she interviewed children to get their perspective.)
I also found many good things I hadn't really thought through yet. I've found it very helpful so far.
A section on prayer is included, which I wouldn't have given much thought (I pray, but didn't know there's enough to talk about for a whole chapter, and all about moving!)
Books to read with your children are referenced in the back, but I'm sure there's much more since this book was published. Actually, I have been looking for more kids' books about moving (for mid-grade) and have been surprised by the lack of them. Or, maybe it's just not that easy to search for them. Susan Miller only found one, so I guess we're in the same boat! (Hmmm. I think I may have to write a book to fit that niche!)
I'll be profiling other moving books in the near future. We're starting our move this week - moving the husband first. We won't finish moving until at least June. And, we're not sure how long we'll stay at that house - so I may be a moving expert in the next year.
