Saturday's Book Recommendation: The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
I just finished "reading" this book. I actually listened to the audio version, which I highly recommend. Had I read the paper version, I'm sure I would have read and reread phrases, enjoying the lyrical quality. However, the audio version was so enjoyable, I hope you get a chance to hear it.
I recommend this for students who want to delve into the adult realm of literature. Although I have a couple of criticisms of the book, I think the literary elements are so strong, I won't bother complaining about them.
The southern voice comes through strongly in the story. It's comfortable -- and comforting in the scarier moments. The religious elements are interesting, though not what many could relate to in their own spiritual walk. The strength of women is a prominent theme.
What I enjoyed most was the delight of written language as it was spoken. It was beautiful.

Now you need to see the movie...I think it was pretty good.
