Saturday's Book Recommendation: Charlie Needs a Cloak by Tomie dePaola

Whenever I see a Tomie dePaola book, it gives me the same warm feeling. Tomie dePaola is consistently able to deliver delightful artwork (love his style!) and a nice story.

In Charlie Needs a Cloak, poor Charlie is a shepherd who needs a new coat.  The reader gets to follow the process from sheep shearing to carding, spinning, dying, and finally sewing the garment.  There are few words on each page, plenty of great artwork, and a little dictionary of terms at the end of the book.

Since my parents have some sheep, and my sister has carded and spun wool, I was drawn to this story.  My sister thought it was pretty neat, too.

This would be a great book to read before going on a field trip to see the sheep shearing or spinning process. Great for a young audience and for early readers.
