Teacher Tip Tuesday: Back to School Confidence

When I taught the mid grades (3rd - 6th) I often found that kids couldn't wait to get back to school. They had worn summer out (probably the first week of summer break) or missed their friends. They often liked back-to-school shopping with all its shiny new gear. Some even looked forward to the home visits we Lutheran school teachers do (yes, visit every student at home for 30-60 minutes!)
But, perhaps you have noticed some who are a bit leery of you or the new school.
Here are some suggestions for confidence-building Bible verses and messages you can pass on:
- I sought the Lord, and He
answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4) Who do you go to whenever you have a fear? Go to God? How? The Bible. Be sure each family has a Bible at home.
- My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:14) Remember that God is always with you, even in a new classroom and with a new teacher. Relax or rest in Him.
- The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Deuteronomy 33:27) Feel like you need a hug when everyone at school ignores you? God's arms are around you. Close your eyes and picture Him giving you a hug.
- I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Psalm 16:8) You might feel kind of shaky on the first day of school, but you'll be okay. God is right there with you.
- When I called, You answered me; You made me bold and stouthearted. (Psalm 138:3) You can say prayers to God at any time. They can be quick and short, quiet, in your head - whatever you want. God will make you feel more confident.

That's great, I never thought about Teacher Tip Tuesday: Back to School Confidence like that before.
